Rio Rock Bands 2013!

Rio del Mar has TWO new rock bands this year! A big congrats goes out to ALL students who bravely shared their skills on stage last Friday.

Friday, September 27th, Band 1 will practice at 2:10-3:15 followed by band 2 from 3:15-4:15pm next week in the cafeteria. Bring your instruments and put them on the stage in the morning. I'll tune them so we are ready to rock! Start thinking of creative band names. I will hand out the band policy form on Monday that each child will need to read, go over with their parents, sign and return. I will also give each child the songs along with the chord charts. Please add Spotify, if possible, which is the best Internet based music software to share songs. If you have Facebook, it is very easy for adults to sign up. I will post our playlists online and share them with you once I get back all of your e-mails next Friday. Make sure to practice and be ready to rehearse our new songs together this week!

After School Program Starts Monday, August 26th

RIO DEL MAR AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM RESUMES

Dear Parents,

Rio del Mar Elementary School's After School Program will begin on Monday, August 26th. Our program will run from 2:05 – 4:25 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Wednesdays the program will run until 2:10 p.m. The primary purpose of this program is to help students with homework and provide academic support/interventions for students that are falling behind grade level standards and who may struggle with the CST testing.

The program will continue to consist of an hour of tutorial/homework support for students in 2^nd through 6^th grades. If your child completes all of their homework they will participate in an hour of enrichment activities to support student learning. Students are to be honest regarding finishing their homework. If they fail to be honest in this regard, they will lose fun enrichment class opportunities for two weeks. Enrichment activities will consist of: Sports Leagues, Rock Bands, Guitar, Cartooning, Legos, Computers, Piano, Chess, Ceramics, Arts and Crafts, Actor's Theater, African Drumming, Games and possibly Choir. Rio’s After School is an open enrollment program and this means that your child may come any day we are in session.

*For those students who take the bus: there will be a free after school bus that will pick up the students at 4:25 p.m. If you have questions about bus transportation problem/concern, please call: 728-6324.

**Please remember to pick up your child promptly each day at 4:25 p.m. and 2:10 on WEDNESDAYS After three late pick-ups, your child will be required to take the free after school bus home.

*There will be no after school program on Fridays, or during Parent/Teacher Conferences in October. Snacks and drinks will be provided each day. All-calls will be made to keep parents updated for enrichment classes coming soon.

*When school begins, the suggested donation is $250 to fund the program Rio’s After School Program. This one-time donation for the school year pays for a Reading Specialist, Math Specialist, staff, supplies, curriculum, books, equipment, prizes and much more. This amount is a small sum compared to the hundreds of dollars you would pay at other programs each month and without it, after school will lose key parts of the program. Checks are preferred and they should be made out to the RDM Parent Alliance.
