RIO DEL MAR AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM RESUMES

Dear Parents,
Rio del Mar Elementary School's After School Program will begin on Monday, August 28th, and run through the middle of May, 2018. Our program will run from 2:05 – 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Wednesdays the program will run until 2:10 p.m. The primary purpose of this program is to help students with homework and provide academic support/interventions for students that are falling behind grade level standards and who may struggle with the common core standards being taught at their grade level.
The program will continue to consist of an hour of tutorial/homework support for students in 2nd through 6th grades. If your child completes all of their homework they will participate in an hour of enrichment activities to support student learning. Students are to be honest regarding finishing their homework. If they fail to be honest in this regard, they will lose fun enrichment class opportunities for two weeks. Enrichment Classes that you can sign up this Fall are: Sneezing Beauty, Rock Band, Guitar, Piano, Minecraft, Photography, Rio Crossfit Club, and Rio Rock Band. To sign up for any of these classes, simply go to the after school website, click link of class you want to join on right, print, sign and return the form with your donation. Rio’s After School is an open enrollment program and this means that your child may come any day we are in session.
*For those students who take the bus: there will be a free after school bus that will pick up the students at 4:25 p.m. If you have questions about bus transportation problem/concern, please call: 728-6324. There is no BUS ON WEDNESDAYS so pick up on time please.
**Please remember to pick up your child promptly each day at 4:25 p.m. and 2:10 on WEDNESDAYS After three late pick-ups, your child will be required to take the free after school bus home. If this occurs on Wednesdays, they will not be able to attend that day.
*There will be no after school program on Fridays, or during Parent/Teacher Conferences in November.. Snacks and drinks will be provided each day. All-calls and e-mails will be made to keep parents updated for enrichment classes coming soon.
*When school begins, the suggested donation is $275 for the entire school year to fund the program Rio’s After School Program. This one-time donation for the school year pays for a Math Specialst,, staff, supplies, curriculum, books, equipment, music, prizes and much more. This amount is a small sum compared to the hundreds of dollars you would pay at other programs each month and without it, after school will lose key parts of the program. Checks are preferred and they should be made out to the RDM Parent Alliance.

AFTER SCHOOL UPDATE

Dear Parents and Students of Rio Del Mar,
This is Mr. Sweet and I have a quick update from the afterschool program. The week of November 14-18th, when we have parent teacher conferences, there will be no afterschool program. School will get out each day at 12:20 that week for all grades.
Also, starting the Monday after Thanksgiving Break we will have several new enrichment classes provided at after school program. The classes will include: Ceramics and Multimedia, School Newspaper Team, Magic the Gathering card game, GamePro Video Programming and Coding, Cross Fit Training Class, and Piano. Finally, tomorrow night the Aptos St. BBQ will host a Rocking Rio del Mar Restaurant Night. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit school music in Aptos. The bands that will play are the Kommon Kore from Rio, Caffeine from AJHS and The Shredders from AHS. Come enjoy the BBQ and support your local schools!

Spring Enrichment Classes

Dear Parents of Rio del Mar,
New enrichment classes will be starting next week at our after school program so sign up soon before they fill up! We have guitar class on Mondays, Hip Hop Dance on Tuesdays, Ceramics/Art on Wednesdays, Math Contest Enrichment Class on Thursdays for 5th and 6th graders, and Minecraft/Computer Animation on Thursdays.
Click on the class link on the right, download the form, sign and return it to the school with the donation, if possible.
Also, the school’s Talent Show will be held on Thursday, March 10th at 8 and 9am. Mr. Kyle’s class will film the show and make a DVD of the performance!
